SO it is called the "drag'n'fly cue to the fact that the 30lbs. of gear makes the bike so ridiculously heavy when going uphill, but makes it soar when going downhill. Drag and Fly get it? Its also a trucker reference as well.
Well the first couple of days have been a success. I would have managed on making it to Sante Fe in 4.5 hours, but alas flat tires have a different say in the manner.I was treated to good company adnd even better spagetti-macaroni hybrid dinner. I fell asleep soundly knowingthat today was the first day of many. The next day woke up to a long ride along Sante Fe roads. After doing the Century in this city was not too pleased with the condition of the roads especially for cycling. I would expect that Bill Richardson would have paved the streets with gold or turquoise(there isn't a spell checker on this public computer). And I decided it would be fun to take the "Scenic High road to Taos; without hesitation I would be emersed in a world of brutal rolling hills, beautiful landscapes, and towns in New Mexico that I only thought would exist in books or museum dioramas. There were about 4 (or close to it) mountain passes I had to undertake most going over 10000, granted I did take "high road" superficially. I made it finally into Taos after battling hills for eight hours and muscles on fire.
Mostof the communities her I could tell that there was a lack of inherent infastructure with the initial viewing of Bud Light cans littering the highway could only co that drinking during the process of driving was only a suggestuon rather than a law. Using penasco as an example, there appeared it used to be a thriving community but the huge amont of buildings were boarded up and many of the remaining businesses catered to the particular tourist that might have car problems. I did thoough enjoy the dandelions having their first bloom today as the seedlings seemed to flood the air that I breathed. I fell asleep unsoundly in a campsite nearby a river in Shady Brook, NM. Red ants I have determined, are quite possibly the best way to wake someone up. Today's top speed have 40.5 mph.
The next day I needed to restock my food and other supples. relising that I could not survive solely on ClifBars and homemade beef jerky, decided to raid the pantries in the humble family cbin that is located therein. I decided to take a rest day here to prepare myself for the 150+ mile ride that is going to happen the following day. Tomorrow I will not be entering the familar surroundings of the Land of Enchantment. But instead my tires will be cristening Colorado, New Mexico's hat, for the first time.
